The City of Flint is getting rubber off the streets and into the right hands.
In conjunction with Republic Services and Environmental rubber, the City of Flint collected tires from residents at a free drop-off event Saturday.
Around 500 tires are now out of sight and out of mind in the city.
They are being shipped to a site where the rubber will be converted into alternative fuels.
"It's good for the environment, for the City of Flint for the blight. Less tires laying around which, of course, mosquitoes rodents. It takes care of all those issues," said Maxine Belchick of Environmental Rubber.
Sunday's collection was at no cost to residents and Republic Services looks forward to future collection.
