Flint Twp business offers free roof covering for damaged homes

Following Tuesday nights' tornado and storm damage, area supply stores report they are armed and ready with sump pumps, flashlights, chain saws and generators to handle the anticipated rush.

Officials at Lowe's Hardware store say they have more generators in stock this year to keep up with the demand.

"This year we were able to get our hands on some extra ones. So we're prepared for the rush, we know it's coming it's just waiting everything out," said Ed Volway, Assistant Store Manager at Lowe's.

Meantime, ACME Building Supply is handing out rolls of Feltex to homeowners with damage to their roofs.

The synthetic material serves as a protector to bare roofs and lasts 90 days.

Leaders at ACME say it's their way of giving back to the community where they live and work.

"We're a part of the community and we care about it. We've been a part of the community for 60 years. We want to reach out to those who are in need," said Robert Yurk, Vice President of ACME Building Supply.

To be eligible for the free roof covering you need to present identification and a photo of the damage to your home.

ACME Supply is located at 2097 Utley Road in Flint Township.
