Flint's historical Berston Field House is welcoming a new playground, thanks to Make an Impact Foundation and other organizations along with us at FOX66 and NBC25.

The site has been transformed into a safe, state-of-the-art place for kids to play and it was done all in one day.

volunteers started bright and early, 200 of them building something amazing to improve the lives of children in Flint.

The work started with volunteers clearing a space near the basketball court at Berston Field House to build a brand new playground.

Laying dirt, pouring cement and assembling playground equipment piece by piece so kids can feel safe and have fun in their community.

"They'll end up getting into mischief. That's why this is so important to us to have this playground and other activities to make sure we give them constructive things to do so they won't be doing things they shouldn't be doing," said Bryant Nolden.

NBC25 and FOX66 partnered with the United Way of Genesee County, KaBOOM!, the Make an Impact Foundation and Keep Genesee County Beautiful to make this project possible.

To do the excavation and the sheer amount of work that goes into this, it would have been over a $100,000.

Volunteers worked throughout the day until the final product was finished.

"When I was little I liked to play on playgrounds, so I can see how these kids are going to feel when they see a new playground they're going to be so excited," said Davontay Pugh.

Berston Field House has been a recreational hub in Flint for decades.

This new playground will replace the rusty and decades-old playground that once sat on the property.

a place for kids to enjoy for years to come, and where memories will be made.
