After several seizures, a college football coach with local ties is stepping aside, for now.
The New York Times reports Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill is taking an open-ended leave of absence from the team to focus on treatment and management of his epilepsy. It's uncertain when he will be able to return to the Golden Gophers football program.
Kill previously coached at Saginaw Valley State University.
The university issued a carefully worded news release that said he would â??take time to focus on his treatment and better manage his epilesy.â?? The break could last a week, or a month, or the rest of the season.
Last week, Kill didn't feel well as Minnesota prepared to leave for Michigan, and he stayed behind. He hoped the would be able to coach his team to a win in Ann Arbor.
But he had another seizure. It was his 5th seizure on a game day and his second one this season.
