The future of athletics in the Saginaw school district is uncertain.
This comes after the school board voted to cut funding to the athletics department for the 2015-2016 school year.
The athletic department already took a $100,000 cut this year. Board members say the district can no longer afford to support the athletics department's $400,000.
Board members say this doesnâ??t spell the end of sports in Saginaw but the department will now have to find alternate funding.
"The district is willing to turn on the lights and have the water on and that sort of thing but there is no funding for coaches,â?? says Ruth Ann Knap, a Saginaw school board member. â??We may have to use the uniforms that are in best condition,â?? she adds.
Board members add that funding for the 2014-2015 school year will remain in place. NBC25â??s calls to the athletics department at Saginaw High School and Arthur Hill High School were not returned.
