Genesys heading to downtown Flint

New Genesys Downtown Flint Health Center

A new medical center will open next year in downtown Flint.

Genesys officials announced plans to renovate a former book store into a 3 million dollar health center. It's slated to open next year. Genesys Regional Medical Center President and CEO Betsy Aderholdt says the center will service everyone downtown, but students at nearby U of M Flint will be targeted by the facility. It would create 10 new jobs. 60 others will be transfered from another Genesys facility.

Genesys is leasing the building in a seven-year deal with Uptown Developments. The building will include a pharmacy and urgent care clinic. Aderholdt says the facility will also work with Michigan State University, which is attempting to bring its school of public health to the downtown. Those negotiations are ongoing. The former Flint Journal building has been discussed as a site for the new MSU school. The Genesys Downtown Flint Health Center will open next July.
