GM introduces new concept pickup truck

The pickup truck is designed to be lightweight.

General Motors is unveiling a new concept pickup truck at the SEMA show in Las Vegas later today.

The concept pickup is called the Chevrolet Cheyenne and is in-part based on the 2014 Silverado.

â??The Cheyenne concept explores the performance possibilities of the all-new Silverado, which is already built on a mass-efficient layout and delivers a greater balance of performance and efficiency than any other full-size truck in Chevroletâ??s history,â?? said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing.

The pickup truck is designed to be lightweight, says GM, and it has removed items like the trailer hitch, spare tire, and sound-deadening material.

However, it has the Silverado's cab design and six-speed automatic transmission.

Perry goes on to say that, "It is only a concept right now, but we are continually exploring new ways to give Silverado customers more.â??
