Gov. Snyder endorses Romney hours before sharing stage with Santorum

Rick Santorum speaks Thursday night in Novi.

After calling Mitt Romney the candidate that will take Michigan and the country in the right direction, Governor Rick Snyder endorsed the former Massachusetts governor on Thursday.

Hours later Gov. Snyder defended his decision at the Lincoln Day Dinner at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

"It was a fairly straightforward and easy decision," said Snyder, who briefly spoke with the media after taking the stage Thursday night.

With the Michigan primary less than two weeks away, a record number of people bought tickets for the dinner, which was hosted by the Oakland County Republican Party.

During his keynote address, Rick Santorum stuck to his campaign slogan of being a 'true conservative', quoting the U.S. Constitution throughout his speech.

Romney's wife Ann also spoke at the event, and touted her husband's experience in business as a key reason for why he should win the Republican nomination.

"Everyone turned to him for turnaround siuations. If their company is in trouble they bring Mitt in to fix it. If the Olympics are in trouble, they bring Mitt in to fix it. The state of Massachusetts was in trouble, they brought Mitt in to fix it," said Romney.

Ann will make another appearance Friday morning at a breakfast at the AmericInn in Grand Blanc.
