Lapeer County is getting a new judge and he's a familiar face.
Governor Rick Snyder has appointed Lapeer County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh to the 40th Circuit Court covering Lapeer County. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Higgins.
According to a news release, the governor says â??Byron Konschuh has decades of experience serving the residents of Lapeer County, both professionally as a prosecutor and personally through volunteering with numerous area organizations,â?? Snyder said. â??He will make an outstanding circuit court judge.â??
Konschuh has served as the Lapeer County prosecuting attorney since 2000. Konschuh began his career as an attorney in private practice after earning a law degree from Wayne State University. He also earned a masterâ??s degree in business administration from Wayne State and a bachelorâ??s degree in economics and political science from Albion College.
He will serve out a term expiring Jan. 1, 2015 and must seek election in November 2014 to serve a full term.
