Grand Blanc H.S. security guard charged with possessing child pornography

A February 4 preliminary exam is set for a Grand Blanc High School security guard accused of having pornography on a computer thumb drive on school premises.

Jedediah Smith was arraigned on 20 counts of manufacturing and possession of child sexually abusive material.

Police say more than 60 images downloaded from the internet were stored on a thumb drive found in the school's security office Jan. 9, when school employees returned to the building after winter break. The head of security notified the school resource officer, D/Sgt. Bryan Byarski with Grand Blanc City Police. Computer forensic specialists then eventually traced the drive back to Smith, who was a contracted security guard who worked the second shift. School officials say none of the images were of Grand Blanc students.

Smith was arrested last Friday and is currently in the Genesee County jail.
