Four Grand Blanc High School students have been suspended for 10 days after sending some racy pictures to each other.
â??It was some pornographic material and it is something that had happened outside of school but obviously everybody has their phone on them so the phones were brought to school,â?? says Clarence Garner, deputy Superintendent of Grand Blanc schools.
â??It is absolutely unacceptable,â?? says Nicole Collick, a parent.
â??Iâ??m really surprised I guess that these students did that,â?? says Corey Laurin, a Grand Blanc student.
The students used a new app on their smart phones called Snapchat to take the pictures. The pictures only last about 10 seconds but when the person on the other end opens it up, the effects can last a lifetime.
â??I sat down and explained to my children that it is illegal, they can get in trouble,â?? says Collick. â??You know they might even end up on a sex offender registry if somebody wanted to push the issue,â?? she adds.
District officials are not pushing the issue beyond the suspensions but they are using it as a lesson.
â??No, we are not pursuing this from a criminal standpoint but we do have a school resource officer at our high school,â?? says Garner. â??I think this would be a great, again, educational opportunity for us here in Grand Blanc,â?? he adds.
â??They need to be more lady-like and gentleman-like than the way kids are turning out to be these days,â?? adds Collick.
