Groundbreaking on a Bay County regional water plant

      B ig changes are coming to how Bay County residents get their water.

      A ground breaking was held Thursday in Bangor Township.

      C onstruction will begin on a nearly $60-million new water treatment plant.

      B ay County, three cities and ten townships are involved.

      O fficials say residents will be getting better quality water from a new source.

      W e spoke to officials earlier this morning.

      " W e will t ap into a new raw water source through the Midland corporation which is a more consist e nt supply of water from Lake Huron as opposed to the inner-Saginaw Bay. We're constructing a new water membrane filtration plant that will provide good quality water to this community for forty-years and beyond," said Tom Paige, Director of the Bay County Department of Water and Sewer.

      S pence Brothers will begin construction with in the next 30-days and say it should be completed in the summer of 2015.
