Group holds Detroit protest against Zimmerman verdict

Several groups have held a rally at a downtown Detroit park to protest the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Travon Martin in Florida.

The Coalition Against Police Brutality was one of the groups sponsoring the Sunday evening rally at Grand Circus Park, which is near Comerica Park and Ford Field.

The group says the action is a protest against the "egregious jury verdict in favor of George Zimmerman" in the 2012 killing.

Detroit police spokeswoman Sergeant Eren Stephens says the protest was peaceful and "no incidents were reported."

The Reverend Charles Williams the Second of Historic King Solomon Baptist Church tells the Detroit Free Press he and others lost sleep and cringed over Saturday's verdict. He's president of the civil rights group National Action Network Michigan.
