Byron Area Schools Superintendent Daniel Scow tells NBC25 that six high school students have been suspended after several weapons were found in vehicles on school property.
Five firearms, ammunition, a bow and arrow, and a paintball gun were located in vehicles during a routine security check Tuesday morning.
Law enforcement authorities used a K9 unit to search school grounds and investigate the weapons. The students who owned the vehicles were then questioned and later suspended.
Superintendent Scow believes the weapons might have been left in the vehicle after a hunting trip and does not believe that any students were at risk. However, he does reinforce that the school takes it very seriously when weapons are found on the property and that an investigation is continuing.
The students will go before the school board to determine future course of punishment.
