FLINT, Mich. - The Hamady sack is coming back!

Hamady Complete Food Center has purchased the former Kroger store building on Pierson near Clio in the Hallwood Plaza in Flint.

A $1 million investment is being made in the store, plus an additional $700,000 in store inventory.

According to the group, the building is still in great condition from the previous owners, complete with working cash registers and related equipment.

The group will be looking to hire 65-70 new employees to staff the location.

In addition to the grocery store, the facility will include an upstairs banquet facility and a new barbeque restaurant will be going in next door.

The new store will offer hot food, including ‘soul food’ options for customers, according to Hamady.

Stadium style lighting will be installed for the exterior and parking lot.

Jim McColgan Jr. will be CEO and managing partner of the business. His father, Jim McColgan Sr. will join Spike Pearson and Hallwood Plaza co-owner Justin Campau as partners.

The new store is scheduled to open the first week of August.

Hamady says it is also planning to open a location in Clio, but renovations to that store it will take longer.

Many Flint residents still remember Hamady as a household name for grocery stores in the city up until the 1990’s.
