Heat Advisory Upgraded to Excessive Heat Warning
Thu, 18 Jul 2013 14:53:15 GMT —
The National Weather Service has upgraded the Heat Advisory to an Excessive Heat Warning in anticipation of overnight lows tonight not dropping much below 80º. Highs this afternoon are forecasted to hover around 95º, with a few spots inching into the upper 90s. Heat indices will hover around 105º, with a few spots as high as 107º.
Try to avoid physical, strenuous activity outside today. If you have to be out in the heat, take frequent breaks in the AC, drink a lot of water, wear loose fitting, light colored clothing, check on your neighbors and those who are most vulnerable to dangerous heat (the young and elderly), and please do not leave a child or pet in a hot vehicle. 20 children have died in the US this year from being left in a hot car.
If you do not have AC, it would be a good idea to go to a friend's house with AC, the mall, a movie, or the library to avoid heat illness.
