Hemlock Semiconductor is cutting 50 jobs at its Michigan site.
The company says 50 employees, as well as contract positions will be eliminated due to the uncertainty of the solar polysilicon industry.
â??Weâ??ve had to make a lot of very difficult, but necessary decisions this year to combat the extraordinary forces impacting the polysilicon industry,â?? said Andy Tometich, president of Hemlock Semiconductor. â??We believe through these actions, our Michigan siteâ??s staffing is better aligned with the demand we expect in 2013.â??
According to a company press release, the affected employees will be offered a severance package that includes access to health benefits and outplacement services.
