Police are putting kids and parents on alert after a middle-aged man reportedly tried to lure a young boy into his car in downtown Holly last week. He repeatedly offered the boy a ride.
"He was a little bit persistent and what happened was another adult came by and scared him off,?? Holly Police Chief Elena Danishevskaya said.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 50's with grey, slicked-back hair. He reportedly drives a white, four-door Oldsmobile Alero. He had a cane in the passenger seat. Police believe he's the same man described in a similar attempt in Fowlerville.
Neighbors are concerned but not surprised the incident happened on their streets because sexual predators could be lurking anywhere.
"It's absolutely amazing how close they are, where they are, and how often they are," Holly resident Dave Holman said.
Police say common sense is the best defense and advise parents to discuss a plan of action with their kids.
Chief Danishevskaya advises kids to ??quickly leave the area, find an adult, tell them what happened, so they can call law enforcement and we can take appropriate action.??
While it's not a common occurrence in this village, police say it never hurts to be extra watchful.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Holly Police Detective Julie Bemis at (248) 634-8221.
