Hundreds of Michigan schools close amid snow, cold

Hundreds of schools in Michigan are closed because of snow and dangerously cold weather conditions.

In Kalamazoo County, most schools are closed Monday including Western Michigan University. In southeastern Michigan, public schools in Macomb County were among those shut down. Closings were reported in Wayne and several other counties.

Several Washtenaw County districts canceled school. Some districts in Bay, Genesee and Saginaw counties shut down for the day.

In western Michigan, reports schools in Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana and Newaygo counties canceled classes. They also had called off school Friday due to a storm. Districts in Kent and Ottawa counties are closed, including Grand Rapids and Holland.

School closings also are reported in the Upper Peninsula. Bay College's Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses shut down due to weather.
