Wednesday is like a holiday in Michigan. It's opening day of firearm deer season.

Before heading into the woods experts suggest hunters check their guns.

"Cause your gun, just like a car it has to be lubricated, so things will work and move properly," said Glenn Duncan, Duncan's Outdoor Shop.

Duncan says checking out your gun ahead of time is also important for your safety. Duncan says to make sure the barrel is clear of any debris.

it's also imperative to know the rules. There's a line that runs through the lower peninsula. If you cross it, you could be in a lot of trouble.

Rifles are only allowed north of the line. South of the line, in more populated areas, hunters can only use a shotgun.

"It's not straight lines so I'm going to tell you get on the Internet, get into your manuals," said Glenn Duncan, Duncan's Outdoor Shop.
