I-75 closed due to overturned tanker

Authorities say the cleanup process is done, so the tanker will be removed soon.

Officials tell NBC25 that all of the dangerous chemicals have been cleared.

I-75 southbound lanes are now OPEN. Northbound should be open by noon according to officials.



Officials say two separate incidents along I-75 northbound near the Birch Run exit caused the roadway to be shut down.

The second incident involves an overturned tanker truck.

HAZMAT crews are on the scene.

The first incident involved a car on fire along I-75.

It happened shortly before the tanker tipped over.

Motorists and residents are being asked to stay at least "1,000 meters" away from the accident scene.

The Birch Run Premium Outlets and the Hollywood Cinemas have been closed.

Beyer Road is also shut down at this time.

The driver of the tanker truck has been transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Michigan State Police, Clio, Bridgeport, Vienna Twp officials are all on the scene.

Fire officials tell us that they are calling authorities from Dow Chemical. They believe the truck could be transporting goods from the company.

Emergency responders including the HAZMAT team are on the scene of a tanker crash on I-75 near the Birch Run exit.

We are told the interstate is shut down in both directions.

Authorities have evacuated the area near Birch Run Premium Outlets and are telling motorists to leave the vicinity.

Birch Run Fire, Saginaw Fire, the HAZMAT team and other first responders are on the scene.
