Investigators say Elias Abuelazam TMs uncle tried to help him get away.
Newly unsealed court documents suggest that Tony Sahwany helped his nephew try to flee the country after hearing he'd been involved in an assault.
Abuelazam is accused of stabbing to death three people and wounding several others in the Flint area.
Investigators say in the court filings, Sahwany knew police were looking for his nephew and helped him move his car before driving him to the airport for the first leg of his unsuccessful dash for Israel.
Police say Sahwany told detectives he became aware of an "assaultive incident" involving his nephew, and feared he'd be responsible for "potential mounting legal bills."
Sahwany has not been charged with any crimes.
Abuelazam has pleaded not guilty to murdering three people and attempting to murder six others.
