A group of young marines broke a sweat Tuesday night to help their organization as well as deployed troops.
The Lapeer County Young Marines battled through a two-and-a-half-hour commitment to do sit-ups, push-ups and other physical exercises to raise money for their program.
The Young Marines meet every week and participate in activities that focus on teamwork, leadership and discipline.
The national program is open to boys and girls ages 8 through the completion of high school. The group provides anti-drug education to its members and participates in Red Ribbon Week each year.
Unit Commander Carol Arman said, ??This program is whatever a child wants to make out of it, if they really want to work hard learn and apply themselves the opportunities are great."
Tuesday??s ??Sit Up. Push Up. Lift Up Our Heroes PT-athon?? fundraiser raised $2,000. Part of the proceeds will benefit Operation Care Package of Michigan.
