Lapeer school district to merge high schools

Under the new plan, Lapeer West students would attend Lapeer East

In 2014 it is planned that the Lapeer School District will have just one high school.

This comes after the Board of Education unanimously approved the merger of Lapeer East and Lapeer West High Schools.

All students, grades 10, 11, and 12, will attend high school at Lapeer East starting with the 2014-2015 school year.

The district superintendent, Matt Wandrie, says Lapeer simply doesn't have the student population to support two high schools.

Wandrie tells us, "This will allow the district to streamline resources and provide a better program for our kids, but also reunite our community in support of all of Lapeer and becoming one Lapeer again is a really neat thing."
