Layoffs will go into effect Monday, July 1 for The Saginaw Police Department.
The 59-officer unit will be scaled back to 55 sworn-officers.
The city passed a budget with $800,000 in cuts mainly targeting public safety.
The Saginaw Police union has presented several cost-cutting measures to city leaders to no avail.
The cuts are to combat a $3.2 million shortfall in the budget.
The Saginaw Fire Department was also facing layoffs.
However, the department received a $2.3 million dollar grant that will preserve the department.
The grant saves 15 positions that were slated for layoffs.
It comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and covers 15 jobs for the next two years.
