Local church begins monthly food giveaway to those in need
FLUSHING, Mich. - The Flushing Community Church is partnering with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to provide food for families in need.
Wednesday was the first of many Wednesdays for the Food Pantry Giveaway.
Each month families can go to the food bank to collect an unlimited amount of food.
A new location in the area is picked every month for the drop offs.
"We're working hard to provide food to some hungry people. We've been able to do this for the past 6 or 7 years. About once a month we select a location, drop off a big truck from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, about 12,000 to 15,000 pounds of food, and just want to meet needs,” said church member Terry Bate.
Families can find out in advance where mobile food banks are located and when they are available.
