American Red Cross union members of OPEIU Local 459 and Teamsters Local 580 had planned on striking earlier this month, but did not. Now, they have set another strike date slated for later this month.
The American Red Cross reports they TMve reached tentative agreements in two other regions, but cannot seem to come to a resolution with these two nions regarding health benefits.
We are once again disappointed in our union representatives, said Sharon Jaksa, CEO of the Great Lakes Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross in a written release. Just when progress is being made, they have initiated another work stoppage. This time the notification came right after we signed an agreement designed to end the last strike and before we even have a chance to once again formally come to the table in negotiations.
The Red Cross says they will continue to meet with bargaining teams.
If no agreement is met, the employees plan on striking at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21st.
Do you think Red Cross workers have the right to strike, or do you think this could potentially put blood donations at risk? Leave us your comments below.
