Locals weigh in on NFL players who took a stand by “Taking a Knee”
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. --Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick pioneered the national anthem protest last year when he knelt during the song.
NFL players and even owners opting for a show of solidarity, linking arms before kickoff.
At the Detroit Lions versus Atlanta Falcons game, the Detroit native singing the national anthem even took a knee at the end of the song.
Some players were also seen taking a knee as well
The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't even take the field until the anthem was over.
This recent wave of protests comes after President Trump slammed pro players for kneeling and quote "disrespecting our flag".
President Trump took to Twitter Sunday afternoon again this time saying linking arms shows "great solidarity.”
Many attending the NAACP’s Freedom Gala in Saginaw Township, including the evening's keynote speaker, are supportive of this nonviolent protest.
The program for the Freedom Fund Gala is just getting underway, but no doubt Sunday’s game and signs of solidarity will be a topic of conversation.
