Loons return means boost for area businesses

Local stores welcome the Loons back to Midland for Monday's home opener.

Many Midland restaurants look forward to the boost in business that coincides with the Great Lakes Loons season.

"With the outdoor seating we have people stop in before and after the game for a little snack," said Diamond Jim's co-owner Jim Hughes.

At Journeys Coffee House, some of the extra profits made during baseball season go to "Filling Midland's Cup", a collection of food giveaways for needy families.

Inside Dow Diamond, the team's official apparel shop is also ready for the 2012 season, offering a new line of pink Loons gear.

"You think that a gentleman is going to be the only one wearing a shirt, but the ladies love it just as much," said Ann Craig, assistant general manager of retail operations.
