Major section of I-75 closes, could affect your commute

The I-75 detour is routing traffic onto I-475 at the southern junction with I-75 in Genesee County.

A section of a major interstate closed in Genesee County Sunday morning for roadwork and it could affect your morning commute for most of this week.

The project includes adjusting the elevation under I-475 to meet current standards and work on the Fenton Road Bridge. Crews are also continuing to work under the Grand Blanc Road Bridge.

Part of I-75 northbound is closed starting at the southern junction of I-475 and I-75. The Michigan Department of Transportation says drivers are being routed north on I-475 then west on I-69 to join back up with I-75 north.

M.D.O.T. has been dealing with some delays on this project and had to push the work back.

â??It's weather dependent so we have had to delay this work a couple of times. We wanted to get it done before Memorial Day and we're really glad we're getting it done this weekend,â?? said M.D.O.T. spokesperson Anita Richardson.

The department says the detour is expected to last until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday.
