Live-in boyfriend arraigned in death of 3-year-old boy
SAGINAW, Mich. (WEYI) - Twenty-six-year-old Tavaris Williams will now face murder charges of the beating death of a three-year-old boy.
Williams was in 70th District Court in Saginaw County Tuesday, Jan. 9 in front of Judge Hoffman.
Williams was arraigned on one count of homicide felony murder and one count of 1st-degree child abuse.
The incident happened Jan. 1 when police arrived at an apartment on Fontaine Boulevard to find the child severely beaten and not breathing.
After detectives made an initial investigation, the 26-year-old live-in boyfriend was arrested and charged with 1st-degree child abuse.
According to Saginaw County Prosecuting Attorney's office, the medical examiner, Dr. Kanu Virani, performed an autopsy on the boy on Mond y, Jan. 8, and ruled the boy died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. Dr. Virani classified the death as a homicide.
Williams will be back in court for a preliminary exam Jan. 18.
