Merrill school bus loses control, leaves roadway after steering fails
MERRILL, Mich. - Some Merrill school students and their bus driver escaped injury after the bus they were on lost its steering control.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to a crash involving a school bus at 7:10 pm Thursday on Fairgrove Road near Kirk Road in Fairgrove Township.
According to deputies, the 50-year-old female bus driver from Merrill reported losing steering control while driving.
The school bus left the roadway, then struck a mailbox and a ‘no passing’ sign before coming to a stop in a homeowner’s yard, the department said.
Several children were on board the bus at the time but no one, including the driver, was injured.
Deputies reported it was discovered a steering component had failed, causing the bus driver to lose control..
