Michael Lawrence waives extradition, will return to Michigan

Lawrence is accused of killing 6-year-old Lay'la Jones just over a year ago.

A Michigan man sought in the drive-by shooting death of a 6-year-old girl last year and the slaying of his ex-girlfriend in April has waived extradition from Nevada.

Authorities say 24-year-old Michael D. Lawrence was captured Friday in Las Vegas by an FBI-led police task force.

Lawrence appeared before a judge in Clark County on Tuesday. Authorities now have 30 days to extradite him. Michigan court dates then will be set.

Police in Saginaw say Lawrence killed 23-year-old Angelica C. Olivarez in April.

Lawrence was one of four men accused in the drive-by shooting of 6-year-old Layla Jones in Saginaw in August 2012. Three others were arrested last year.

Saginaw is about 85 miles northwest of Detroit.
