Michigan prisoner who escaped scheduled for court

A man who escaped from a Michigan prison in February is due in court next week to face escape, carjacking and kidnapping charges.

Records show 41-year-old Michael Elliot is to be arraigned Wednesday in District Court in Ionia.

Elliot was captured in Indiana on Feb. 3, about 24 hours after escaping from Ionia Correctional Facility in western Michigan. Authorities say that Elliot slipped under gates and made holes in fences to get away before carjacking a woman in Ionia.

The woman got away in Indiana.

Ionia County Prosecutor Ron Schafer says the case is important to the woman, regardless of Elliot's prior convictions.

Elliot is a convicted killer serving no-parole sentences for four 1993 homicides in Gladwin County. He's said he's innocent in that case.
