Michigan State "Flintstones," professional athletes raise money for 1,000 families

1 Goal 1 Cause "Hope for the Holidays" fundraiser was held at B's Bowling in Flint Saturday.

Michigan State basketball superstar and former NBA player, Mateen Cleaves, is making sure Michigan families will have some hope this holiday season.

Joined by fellow 2000 NCAA champions, "Flintstones"--Charlie Bell, Antonio Smith and Morris Peterson attended Cleaves' 1 Goal 1 Passion Hope for the Holidays celebrity bowling fundraiser.

The event along with others in Detroit and East Lansing will provide 1,000 families with $1,000 this holiday season.

"It just heart-felt to see the turn out, man it's great, and just to know we're going to help provide for a thousand families throughout Christmas and not only Christmas but the holiday season just makes me feel good," said Cleaves.

Other athletes supporting the event Saturday include NFL Super Bowl champion Cato June, former NFL player TJ Duckett and other Michigan stand-out athletes.

The United Way, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club will help Cleaves identify 1,000 families in need.

Families will be selected from Flint, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, Detroit and Lansing.

$1 million is needed to support the efforts.
