Michiganders cool off on hottest day of the year so far

It was the hottest day of the year so far in Mid-Michigan on Wednesday with high temperatures topping out in the upper 80's.

At the Mussel Beach Drive-In restaurant in Bangor Township, people lined up to cool off with ice cream.

The restaurant is right down the road from the Bay City Recreation Area on the shore of Saginaw Bay.

Some people who were lucky enough not to be at work or school spent today walking on the brand new boardwalk at the Bay City Recreation Area and explored nature.

There was no one swimming because lake water temperatures are still in the 40's and 50's, but most people were just happy to take in the sun and get outside.

"It's nice I really like enjoying it by the beach and it feels nice getting warm weather again," said Phoenix Williams, who was enjoying the hot weather at the Bay City recreation area.

"It's that summer, finally summer's here. The green, the wind, the sun," exclaimed Catie Beffrey, an employee at the Mussel Beach Drive-In Restaurant.
