Midland council votes on road reduction; Buttles St. to become 2-lane road
MIDLAND, Mich. --Big traffic changes are coming to a busy highway in Midland.
In a four-to-one vote, council members decided to back Momentum Midland's idea, to convert the eastbound US10 business loop, or Buttles Street between Jerome and State, from three to two lanes.
The third lane would then become a pedestrian-bike lane.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is calling for a pilot period to take a look at speeds and safety concerns to see if it this should be a permanent change.
While some people who live in the area believe it will cause traffic headaches.
Many businesses support the plan.
A trial run of the Buttles Street road reduction will last three years.
No word on when the project will begin
