It's no surprise to people who live in Midland that the county is on top, the only community in the state to be ranked in CNN Money's top places for the middle class.
"They deserve it. Midland is a wonderful community to live in, I've lived here for 3 years and it is my home away from home" says Angie Janssen, a Northwood University student.
Midland county earned the spot for its low crime rate, cleanliness, and its strong local business base.
"I'm happy to be a part of a small business downtown so we're kind of all just a great community, we all support each other and I'm really glad we made the top 8 list" says Heather Mickam, Co-Owner of the Heather n' Holly candy store.
Other factors like housing costs and the education level of its residents also helped boost Midland to the top.
A step that has made it attractive to people from out of state.
"My husband Mike just took a ministry position at Midland Nazarene, and we heard Midland was a really great area and safe so that's why we moved up" says Billie Martin, a native of Virginia.
No matter where they came from, people in Midland say they're glad to call the city home.
"It's got a good base of employment, full of parks, recreation activities, it's a great place to raise the kids" says Scott Coyer.
