Midland Police report major drug bust

The following is a message from the Midland City Police:

Midland City Police Chief Gerald Ladwig announced today that the newly formed special operations unit within the department has just netted one of the largest quantity of Marijuana ever seized in the city of Midland.

At approximately 11:30PM on 2/18/2010 Midland Police Department Officers assigned to the Safe City Project Special Operations Team and Officers from Midland City Police Road Patrol made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the South East portion of the city. After a short foot chase a subject was arrested and officers found Oxycontin and marijuana as well as a large amount of cash on his person.

A search warrant was obtained for the suspect TMs residence with the assistance of the Midland County Prosecutors Office and the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (BAYANET). The Midland SWAT team was activated and made entry early on the morning of 2/19/2010 where approximately 12 pounds of Marijuana was found and seized. The total street value of the Oxycontin and Marijuana seized is approximately $20,000.

This truly was a collaborative effort between many law enforcement agencies. We are fortunate to have such a good collaborative team approach to keep our community safe.

I am especially proud of the way our Officers handled this investigation. The Midland Police Department and BAYANET are continuing the investigation and will submit their findings and request to the Midland County Prosecutors Office for criminal charges.
