MidMichigan bids a final farewell to Ryan McCandless

MidMichigan bids a final farewell to one of its finest natives, Ryan McCandless.

The Midland community honors his service after being killed in the line of duty in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Officers say Officer Ryan McCandless had a smile that never ended, neither did his dedication to his job and his community.

More than one hundred law enforcement officials from all over Michigan paid respects to the fallen officer at Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland Township.

He had completed a masters degree and was engaged to be married in January.

The procession winded its way through downtown Midland where the public showed its respect with their hands over their hearts and flags waving.

Officers say it was difficult burying him Thursday.

Captain Karl Jegeris of the Rapid City Police Department says, "Bringing him here home to Michigan was a difficult task. It was the most difficult duty I've ever had. It's also the greatest honor i've ever had."

Another officer, Nick Armstrong, also died in the shooting that took Ryan McCandless.
