Mott Community College has named the school's new president.
Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea will take over as president on Wednesday, August 27th. She replaces Dr. Richard Shaink, who is retiring after 14 years.
Mott's Board of Trustees announced Walker-Griffea's selection Monday afternoon. She becomes the school's seventh president, and the first woman and African American to lead the institution.
Walker-Griffea is currently the Senior Vice President for Student Services at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland.
In a news release sent to NBC 25, MCC Board of Trustee Chairwoman Lenore Croudy said: "With 19 years of experience working in a community college environment, Dr. Walker-Griffea possesses the skills needed to build on Mott Community College??s standing as one of the top 10 community colleges in the United States. Her understanding of workforce and economic development, commitment to community engagement and her ability to work closely with faculty, staff and students to achieve Mott College??s goals will help our college to continue its 90-plus year tradition of excellence.??
Mott Community College is based in Flint, with sites in Fenton, Clio, Lapeer, and Howell.
