Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint spent Friday doing a little spring cleaning to get an urban garden at the club ready for the season.
They knocked out a four hour job in an hour, in part, because they teamed up with some local Michigan State Police troopers.
â??[The state troopers] have a very active presence in the city of Flint now, they're helping improve the situation, attaching themselves to the violence,â?? Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint Executive Director Bob Nelson said.
Together, the troopers and club members pulled out weeds at the hoop house structure. The trenches are now ready to be tilled and dug.
Tauzzari Robinson, unit director for the Averill Avenue unit, said the activity teaches children to be self sustaining.
What better metaphor for personal growth than a garden ready for a new round of planting?
