The Mount Morris Township Fire Department gives community members an up-close look at equipment and safety gear as residents weigh a public safety millage.
The department is trying to get the community involved by holding an open house.
It gave residents the opportunity to meet the men and women entrusted with their safety.
Families came in to learn more about the equipment and gear used for fire and rescue.
A police and fire millage is proposed in Mt. Morris Township.
Officials say it is necessary to maintain current policing levels and avoid shutting down one of three fire stations.
"We're getting by but we have this millage coming up and it's getting to the point now where we need to get a little extra help because the money situation is starting to run dry a little bit," saysMt. Morris Township Fire Chief Rick Johnson.
The community will vote on the millage May 7.
