Snowier-than-normal weather and people driving too fast are being blamed on a high number of traffic accidents last month on Genesee County highways and roads.
County 911 data shows dispatches were made for 2,428 crashes.
It's the most for any month since 2,085 in December 2010. January's numbers also average out to more than 78 crashes per day.
A January record of nearly 33 inches of snow fell in and around Flint.
The large number of accidents this winter forced police to regularly close sections of roads, including parts of Interstate 69 and I-475.
Mt. Morris Township police Lt. Matt Lasky says excessive speeds and complacency among some motorists on slick roadways contributed to many of the crashes.
