In nearly two months, more than 53,000 people will descend on downtown Flint for the Crim Festival of Races and there are some notable changes to the tradition this year.
Instead of staying north on Saginaw, 10-mile race runners will continue on Martin Luther King before coming back down Harrison to go around the UM-Flint campus.
Race organizers said this change will allow for better access downtown for runners and watchers on the race day.
Also new, the Michigan Mile will now be held Friday night. And before that, elite runners can run the Professional Mile to warm up for Saturday.
This year, HealthPlus will be the first officials sponsor. Crim events will be called the HealthPlus Crim Festival of Races. Race founder Bobby Crim said these changes were made with one common goal - to make the race bigger and better.
â??Weâ??re always changing and always growing and we hope that goes for the city as well,â?? Crim said. â??I remember the city when it was a real hustling, bustling place Iâ??d like to see it that way again and I think the Crim is a part of bringing that about," he added. The finish line will remain at the same spot on the downtown bricks.
