New information says the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

An off-duty Michigan State Police Trooper hit and killed a teenager who was crossing the street Tuesday night.

NBC25 TMs sister station, WOOD-TV, reports 16-year-old Zachary Barber and 14-year-old Donald Proctor were pushing a moped along Stage Road in Ionia Township, when off-duty Trooper Daniel Parker hit them from behind.

Barber was taken by helicopter to the hospital where he died from the injuries. Proctor was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

Barber was preparing to enter his 10th grade year at Ionia High School.

Trooper Parker has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. So far it appears that neither drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
