Officer injured, man dead after Tuscola Co. standoff

Michigan State Police say a husband and wife are dead and an officer injured after a standoff and shoot out in Tuscola County.

Police say a family member of the homeowner of the home on the corner of Reese Road and Van Giesen Road stopped by the house to check on the couple. The homeowner then told his family member that his wife was dead inside the home. The family member then called 911.

When Tuscola County sheriffâ??s deputies arrived on scene, the homeowner fired upon the deputies. The deputies fired back, fatally shooting the homeowner. In the exchange of fire, a sheriffâ??s deputy was injured. The deputy was treated at Covenant Hospital and later released.


Michigan State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Tuscola County. The Tuscola County sheriffâ??s office tells NBC25 that two deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a home near Van Buren and Van Geisen roads in Gilford Township shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday. A family member told authorities they had stopped at the house and confronted their father who stated their mother was dead. Deputies along with a Caro police officer set up a perimeter around the home. A male subject came out of the house and began firing a weapon at officers. The officers returned fire and the subject was killed. One deputy was injured in the shooting. He was treated at a hospital and released. The investigation was turned over to the Michigan State police. Stay with NBC25 for updates as they become available.
