Official Saginaw restructuring plan could close two schools

Saginaw Public Schools are releasing their recommended redesign plan for the district. Superintended Carlton Jenkins will be presenting his redesign plan to the Saginaw Board of Education before voting on an official deficit elimination plan.

The plan calls for the closure of Houghton, Merrill Park and staff development buildings while making Saginaw High and Arthur Hill 7-12.

The proposed decision is coming after public outrage to keep Saginaw High open during a community forum with the Saginaw Board of Education last Saturday.

The presentation details the futures of smaller schools in the district including Handley and Ruben Daniels.

The timeline for the proposed changes includes the immediate development of a transitional committee and the presentation to the board on transitional work on March 19th. Some of the proposed plan's slideshow images are included with this article.
