Officials say two people are dead following a small plane crash in a wooded area of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.
WPBN/WTOM-TV and the Petoskey News-Review report the crash happened about 7 a.m. Monday near Boyne City in Charlevoix County. The crash site east of Boyne City Municipal Airport is several hundred yards from a road, and is reachable on foot or by snowmobile.
Names of the dead, which authorities said included the pilot, weren't immediately released.
Undersheriff Chuck Vondra tells the newspaper that the plane was broken into many pieces.
Crews are on the scene about 45 miles northeast of Traverse City. Federal investigators are expected to help determine the cause of the crash.
