Some old Consumers Energy transmission lines along the river in downtown Bay City are coming down to make way for the upcoming Uptown Bay City project.
The U.S. Coast Guard closed the river to boat traffic Monday morning so electric crews could remove the wires supported by towers flanking each side of the river.
The landmark tower on the east side of the river is coming down today.
The west-side tower is scheduled to come down in mid July.
Tune in to NBC25 News at 6 tonight. Reporter Josh Marshall was there when the tower fell.
